Doctor Loses Stake in (Former) Kidney

A court has rejected a New York surgeon's claim that he should get US$1.5 million in his divorce settlement because he donated a kidney to his wife Robert Batista made headlines in January 2009 when he held a news conference and demanded that his estranged wife either return the kidney or give him $ 1.5 million. Dr Batista claimed he was entitled to the compensation as his wife had denied him visits with their three children. In a 10-page ruling, the judge concluded that Dr Batista’s claim was without merit. The court ruled the kidney, which was donated in 2001, was a gift.
